We're also looking at what's next for you and how we can help you build a career you're proud of.  Reporting to the Manager of Finance and Commercial Risk, the Accounting Manager will oversee the accounting department, manage staff career development, and provide mentoring and support to the district managment team.  Additionally, the role involves coordinating and consolidating financial reporting for the Seattle district.  The salary range for this position is $124,000 - $153,000 annually based on background and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Financial Reporting:  Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual operating reports in compliance with GAAP and company policies and procedures.  Ensure timely and accurate reporting to senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Financial Oversight:  Manage daily/weekly/monthly/yearly accounting functions (AP, AR, check run, payroll, month-end/year-end close, etc.) in compliance with legislation, contract terms, and company policies.  Ensure that general ledger entries are posted accurately, and reconciliations are completed timely.
  • Cash Flow Management:  Oversee cash flow forecasting, monitor accounts receivable and payable, and ensure sufficient liquidity to support district operations.
  • Financial Analysis:  Provide Financial insights and analysis to assist district and project management in making informed decisions.  Identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and offer strategic recommendations to improve profitability and efficiency.
  • Planning and Forecasting:  Lead the annual and quarterly planning process.  Manages and prepares district review and year-end documents.  Collaborate with district and department leadership to ensure that financial targets align with district and corporate strategic objectives.
  • Internal Controls:  Implement and maintain strong internal controls to ensure compliance with financial regulations and minimize risk.  responsible for ensuring that all required documentation, including insurance, bonding, SDI, workers compensation, statutory declarations, and lien waivers is in place and renewed accordingly.  Proactively identify areas for improvement in accounting processes and policies.
  • Team Leadership and Development:  Supervise, mentor, and develop a growing team of accounting professionals.  Foster a collaborative and high-performance environment, providing guidance and training to ensure ongoing professional growth.
  • Controller Responsibilities:  Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors, ensuring timely and accurate completion of annual audits.  Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • System Improvements:  Drive continuous improvement in accounting systems and processes.  Identify and implement new technologies and tools to streamline operations and enhance reporting accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a managerial or supervisory role.  Construction experience an asset.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Proven experience with financial analysis, planning, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to build and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software (ERP systems like Oracle), and other financial reporting tools.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
