Here's how a Civil Senior Project Manager for our Calgary office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

  • Provides overall leadership and support for several civil projects or one very large civil project with high complexity. Accountable for safety, budget, quality, schedule and profitability performance. 
  • Creates and influences safety culture as a mentor and model. Participates in district safety committee and influences corporate safety policy and procedures.
  • Leads to secure new work by participating as part of core pursuit/preconstruction team to contribute to estimate, proposal and/or presentation.
  • Develops and facilitates teams to develop creative solutions to complex problems. 
  • Monitors and manages design deliverable schedule to facilitate and/or assist with permits, procurement, shop drawings, off-site production, construction and commissioning in conjunction with the review and signoff by the client.
  • Attends the design management meetings, communicating PCL’s needs and requirements, and escalating issues of concerns for resolution.
  • Supervises, directs, trains and mentors project team, including direct and indirect reports on the same or multiple sites.
  • Oversees and negotiates commercial matters with owner and trade contractors.
  • Understands, communicates and proactively manages contract and documents.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education or training in engineering, construction management or related discipline. 
  • 15+ years of progressive civil construction experience with multiple contract delivery types as a leader and mentor preferred. 
  • 12- 24 months of estimating or related experience preferred.
  • Strong business acumen to support corporate objectives.
  • Expert knowledge and application of safety and environment principles/procedures/legislation.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, methods and procedures, and safety and quality management practices for large, complex and more diverse projects.
  • Understanding of project controls and contract administration.
  • Experience with diverse civil project types, delivery and construction methods, and sequencing and timelines.
  • Expert knowledge of and ability to apply project construction laws and standards and to leverage such knowledge.
  • Thorough understanding of insurance, bonding and legal requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience leading effective project meetings with customer, consultants, and internal employees; experience presenting at client meetings or for project pursuit.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to generate, review, and administer complex subcontracts and purchase orders, ensuring that risks are mitigated and opportunities are identified.
