We are currently seeking superintendents with strong experience managing water and wastewater projects to join our civil team. Here's how a Superintendent for our Calgary office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

  • Implements PCL’s safety program in all site plans and procedures for assigned civil and water/wastewater projects, ensuring compliance with safety and record-keeping requirements.
  • Supervises, coaches, trains and mentors the project team.
  • Communicates effectively with own forces and trades to meet performance, productivity, quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborates with the construction/project manager and team to manage potential problems and schedule conflicts.
  • Plans and creates the complete project schedule, identifying the critical path and anticipating any constructability issues.
  • Develops and implements the Project Execution Plan and three-week lookahead schedules.
  • Maintains and executes the project plan and schedule, ensuring budget and quality compliance.
  • Reviews contracts and subcontracts, develops plans to mitigate risks, maximizes opportunities and meets financial targets.
  • Develops and maintains strong customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman certificate or undergraduate/engineering degree in a related discipline; NCSO designation required; enrollment in the Gold Seal program preferred.
  • 5–10 years of progressive experience in field supervision, with a focus on managing civil and water/wastewater projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of the water and wastewater industry, materials, specifications, methods and procedures.
  • Understanding of project scope and ability to apply engineering principles to water and wastewater construction plans and schedules.
  • Proficient in scheduling software and logic application.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple scopes of a construction project, including scheduling and monitoring own forces work (OFW) and trade contractors.
  • Thorough understanding of productivity rates, Labor Cost Reports (LCRs) and cost report interpretation.
  • Knowledge of contract language, risk mitigation and opportunity identification.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety and environmental principles, procedures and legislation.
  • Ability to lead effective site meetings and interview or present at client meetings for project pursuits.
  • Demonstrated conflict-resolution, problem-solving, and professional judgment skills.
