We are seeking an Health, Safety and Environment Student, for our North American Headquarters district in Edmonton, AB, that is available for 4 - 12 months starting in January 2027. This position will be under the direct supervisor of the Director, HSE Programs.
As a Health, Safety and Environment Student, you will gain hands-on experience supporting corporate HSE initiatives and workplace safety programs through
Responsibilities
- Supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of PCL’s Environmental Management System.
- Assisting with ISO 14001 certification readiness, including documentation development, gap assessments, and action tracking.
- Participating in environmental risk assessments and the identification of environmental aspects and impacts.
- Supporting environmental compliance by researching regulatory requirements and monitoring applicable obligations.
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of environmental procedures, standards, training materials, and communications.
- Collecting, analyzing, and reporting environmental performance data to support sustainability objectives and decision-making.
- Supporting environmental inspections, audits, investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
- Collaborating with operational teams and business partners to improve environmental performance and reduce environmental impacts.
- Contributing to sustainability initiatives related to waste reduction, pollution prevention, resource conservation, and continuous improvement.
- Maintaining environmental records and documentation to support compliance, audits, and management system requirements.
What you will bring to the role:
- Foundational knowledge of environmental management systems, environmental compliance, and sustainability principles.
- Understanding of environmental aspects and impacts, risk assessment, and pollution prevention practices.
- Interest in environmental management standards, including ISO 14001.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
- Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn in a collaborative, continuous improvement environment.
