Here's how a(n) General Accountant for our Edmonton Industrial Management office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

  • Collects and obtains approval and processes through PCL business systems all accounts payable in a timely and accurate manner to meet all contract payment terms as per legislation, contract terms, and PCL policy and procedures.
  • Assists with year-end procedures as assigned.
  • Prepares bank deposits and enters cash receipts.
  • Processes time-entry transactions and reconciliations.
  • Prepares, processes, and reviews equipment-related costs.
  • Prepares, processes, and reports overhead items.
  • Prepares, processes, and reviews intercompany billings.
  • Follows up on vendor statements and outstanding invoices.
  • Ensures that internal controls and company policy is adhered to.
  • Supports finance and commercial risk management with special assignments as required.
  • Effectively communicates with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains strong, customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Values and models the solution provider and profitability culture.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary degree or a diploma in a related discipline preferred. CPA designation not a requirement.
  • 1-3 years of accounting and/or bookkeeping experience preferred.
  • Introductory knowledge of construction industry; understands general construction terms and processes.
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience using JD Edward ERP considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.  
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles, including maintenance of ledgers and cash-flows.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to act with the required discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Strong organizational skills and high level of detail orientation with the ability to accurately prepare and enter financial information to meet deadlines and requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
