We are currently seeking an M&E Project Manager (Building Systems Manager) to support our QEII project in Halifax, NS. The QEII Halifax Infirmary Expansion Program (HIEP) is a 1.2 million square foot expansion of the Province of Nova Scotia’s existing QEII campus being completed under a complex P3 contract structure. PCL Constructors Canada Inc. is collaborating with multiple partners from across the country to undertake the single largest healthcare infrastructure project considered in Nova Scotia.

Here's how an M&E Project Manager for our Ottawa office on this project in Halifax, NS, contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship and training to Building Systems Coordinators, supporting their professional growth and career progression.
  • Offer strategic building systems guidance to the design-build team, ensuring alignment with PSOS and industry best practices.
  • Oversee planning, coordination, and execution of building systems activities, ensuring quality, constructability, and schedule adherence.
  • Lead technical execution and team performance for the largest subcontractor (MNTI), ensuring deliverables meet project standards.
  • Act as the primary liaison with local utilities to ensure timely installation and delivery of essential site services (gas, water).
  • Review building systems trades’ progress for compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Identify and communicate risks and opportunities to the project team, ensuring proactive issue resolution.
  • Process critical building systems submittals, coordination documents, and reports.
  • Direct and support model coordination and drawing processes to ensure seamless integration.
  • Review and manage prime contract and subcontract details, ensuring effective contract administration.
  • Negotiate and process change notices/orders related to building systems, assessing impacts on budget, scope, and schedule.
  • Provide direction to project teams, consultants, and trade contractors throughout the design-build process.
  • Monitor trade contractor activity and enforce preapproved quality-management programs.
  • Utilize internal project management systems to track changes and forecast building systems-related impacts.
  • Lead the commissioning process, ensuring successful execution and turnover of building systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Tradesperson or postsecondary diploma/degree in a related discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, controls) is preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical/electrical construction. 
  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, principles, and practices. 
  • Experience with reviewing trade contractors’ progress billings and assessing for accuracy.  
  • Ability to facilitate the coordination of mechanical, electrical, architectural, civil, and structural drawings and specifications. 
  • Knowledge of basic construction law and ability to apply building codes as required. 
  • Understanding of different types of contract delivery methods. 
  • Ability to manage contractual obligations and responsibilities related to building systems. 
  • Uses effective verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
