Here's how a Project Manager/Client Relations for our Halifax office contributes to our team:

This position is responsible for leading and managing the external communication of all planned and ongoing construction activities, ensuring that key project stakeholders are informed and aligned. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of managing relationships with internal and external parties, ensuring that communication flows smoothly and effectively to avoid disruptions to operations, especially within the QEII Hospital campus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading external communications as the primary point of contact with key project shareholders. Develop and implement a communication strategy to coordinate ongoing and upcoming construction activities with key stakeholders, ensuring transparency, clarity, and timely updates.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to address any construction activities that may impact QEII hospital operations, public interactions, and overall hospital functioning. Prioritize the needs of the hospital and the public when making decisions about construction activities.
  • Work closely with internal project management, field supervisors, and the broader project team to gather accurate and timely project information. Communicate key details to project stakeholders, ensuring alignment across the board.
  • Create and develop clear, concise, and engaging presentation materials to facilitate communication, ensuring key project stakeholders are well-informed and aligned with the project's goals.
  • Take ownership of leading briefings with internal management and client leaders, addressing any concerns related to the operational impact of construction activities. 
  • Provide regular updates, aligning construction progress with hospital operations to ensure minimal disruption.
  • Spearhead advanced communication planning to ensure all necessary communication timelines and contractual obligations are met or exceeded. Ensure clear and consistent messaging throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with internal project members to assist with daily logistics, site access, deliveries, and verification of necessary documentation and safety compliance. Ensure that all site activities adhere to safety and regulatory standards and that project timelines are consistently met.
  • Manage contracts and purchase orders related to site logistics, ensuring that all communications related to these documents are accurate and timely. Prepare detailed reports for project leadership, summarizing key communications, milestones, and issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in construction, with a strong focus on client relations, communication, and contract administration.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate, influence, and present ideas that drive positive outcomes. Ability to simplify complex concepts for a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including hospital leadership, government bodies, contractors, and community representatives.
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction industry, including materials, specifications, methods, and construction law, as well as safety and quality management practices. Familiarity with Nova Scotia government procurement processes and hospital operational requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage schedules, budgets, and multiple communication touchpoints. Experience using project management and scheduling software, such as P6 or Microsoft Project, and a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety, with experience applying health, safety, and environmental principles within construction projects.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and visual presentation software. Comfortable using project management and scheduling software, with the ability to quickly adapt to new tools and technologies.
