Responsibilities

Pursuit Phase

  • Oversees the development and dissemination of the Project Execution Plan (PEP).
  • Identifies project path of construction and sequence, and plays an integral role with the scheduling department to provide a project schedule. Works alongside Project Controls to ensure budgets are properly set up and key quantity metrics meet the requirements of the contract and project need. Responsible for communicating with all department heads to ensure necessary project deliverables are completed in a timely manner.
  • Monitors and manages all deliverables to adhere to the project schedule and needs (facilitates permitting, procurement, shop drawings, subcontracts).
  • Manages and monitors review of design documentation by leveraging the necessary team members and seeks resolution from the design team regarding low levels of design completeness, accuracy, and quality; applicable through various design stages and issued-for-construction documentation. 

Execution Phase

  • Leads construction execution.
  • Oversees, monitors, and communicates project performance by ensuring timely and accurate schedules, cost reports, equipment schedules, manpower/resource reporting, material status reporting, safety and quality compliance, and by actively participating in Quest programs.
  • Understands and actively manages client expectations, client-specific project success criteria, contract terms, and relationships. Supervises, directs, trains, and mentors the project team, including both direct and indirect reports.
  • Understands client drivers and offers value-based proposals for functionality, cost, and/or schedule benefits, while maintaining value-added outcomes as part of the solution or service provided.
  • Conducts site and safety inspections; attends and provides value-added communication in progress meetings. Leads by example. Participates in incident reviews, near-misses, and HSE reporting.
  • Drives changes to ensure project safety standards, legislation, and environmental programs remain compliant.

Supervision/Direction

  • Responsible for direct supervision of entire project team. Based on contract requirements and project size, leads a team of direct and indirect reports,which may include a combination of students/interns, field engineers/coordinators,project engineers/coordinators, project superintendents, and/or project managers.
  • This includes mentoring and coaching, career management and performance management responsibilities, performance-potential rating recommendations, and influencing salary and bonus reviews for direct reports.
  • Monitors and delegates tasks related to onboarding and training of employees on their sites and assists in recruiting new team members and provides input/feedback on staffing decisions and plans.
  • Develops strong operations teams with superintendents. Participates in district succession planning and performance-potential rating calibration process for district field staff. Provides leadership for operations management through coaching and mentorship and provides general direction to employees involved in complex work.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education or training in engineering, construction management, or related discipline. 
  • 15+ years of progressive construction experience with multiple contract delivery types as a leader and mentor preferred.
  • 2–5 years as construction manager with demonstrated experience leading successful projects and contributing to the district in a leadership capacity preferred.
  • 12–24 months of estimating or related experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge and application of safety and environment principles/ procedures/legislation.
  • Experience with diverse project types, delivery and construction methods, and sequencing and timelines.
  • Expert knowledge of and ability to apply project construction laws and building codes and to leverage such knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing others and many construction project facets, including multiple scope coordination. Experience leading and assessing trade performance.
  • Demonstrated experience leading effective project meetings with customer, consultants, and internal employees; experience presenting at client meetings or for project pursuit.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and mitigate potential risks on complex construction projects. 
  • Experience establishing, implementing, and monitoring cost and change management processes.
