Here's how a(n) Intermediate Estimator for our Edmonton Melloy office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

  • Performs quantity, material, and labor takeoff from drawings, specifications, and related documents.
  • Compiles large spreadsheets and databases of bill of quantity data in the development of the estimate.
  • Reads and comprehends client documents including a detailed understanding of multi-discipline scopes.
  • Reviews quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or chief estimator.
  • Applies productivity and material units and allowances to the estimate.
  • Assists in developing work plans, crane pick plans, indirect support, etc.
  • Documents all information relating to the estimate and archives and organizes such information to transfer to the project team upon successful award.
  • On a fixed-price job, ensures that bid validity, escalation, and extra work terms meet project requirements.
  • Solicits pricing from trade contractors and suppliers under supervision of lead estimator.
  • Attends preliminary site visits with more senior staff for mentoring.
  • Develops and maintains strong customer focused relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
  • 5 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating. 
  • Knowledge of the turnaround and maintenance industry; on-site experience or exposure to pressure vessel fabrication (hands-on or trade experience) required.
  • Ability to work in a busy team environment.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to creatively solve problems.
  • Working knowledge of estimating software, advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite and a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
  • Ability to read isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software.
