Here's how a BIM/ VDC Specialist for PCL Constructors Canada Inc. within Toronto contributes to our team:
Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain all multidisciplinary construction models, tools, and digital workflows, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to project and organizational standards.
- Lead full multi‑trade model coordination, including clash detection, issue tracking, scope-gap identification, and facilitation of regular coordination and resolution meetings with design consultants and trade partners.
- Develop site logistics models, 4D/5D simulations, sequencing alternatives, and constructability scenarios to support planning, pursuit strategies, and overall project delivery.
- Support project pursuits by identifying opportunities to integrate BIM/VDC technologies, workflows, automation, and prefabrication/modularization strategies into project scopes.
- Implement, evaluate, and optimize BIM/VDC tools, scripts, templates, and processes while providing training, guidance, and technology enablement to project teams.
- Produce model‑based deliverables such as lift/installation plans, layout points, sequencing visualizations, dashboards, and coordination reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform constructability reviews, temporary works modeling, and model‑based quantity takeoffs to support early issue resolution and reduce project risk.
- Integrate and manage reality capture workflows—laser scanning, drones, and photogrammetry—to validate as‑built conditions, track progress, and ensure design alignment.
- Collaborate with Integrated Construction Technology leadership to review and support BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), BIM/VDC scopes, and contract language.
- Identify and leverage opportunities to enhance project outcomes through the strategic application of integrated construction technologies.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a buildings industry-related discipline (e.g., architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC), civil, architectural.
- Minimum 4 years of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) or BIM coordination related experience.
- Preferred certifications: Autodesk Revit/Navisworks Professional, CM-BIM, CanBIM/Building Transform Practitioner, Trimble, or similar credentials.
- Strong knowledge of building construction processes, trade sequencing, means and methods, temporary works, tolerances, and shop drawing workflows.
- Ability to interpret and translate 2D drawings and specifications into accurate and coordinated 3D/4D models, with a strong understanding of design workflows and trade detailing.
- Proficiency in 3D/4D modeling, simulations and VDC software (e.g., Revit, Navisworks), including model authoring, content creation, model management and constructability analysis.
- Skilled in developing and applying BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), modeling standards, data schemas, and performing model QA/QC, including LOD, naming conventions, and parameter compliance.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and diplomacy skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary coordination meetings and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience scoping design deliverables, supporting design-assist/Design-Build/IPD environments, and understanding Canadian codes, standards, and trade practices.
- Strong time-management abilities, capable of overseeing multiple projects while driving issue resolution and measurable outcomes.
Technical Proficiencies
• Authoring/Coordination: Advanced level proficiency in Revit and Navisworks Manage, Civil 3D.
• CDE & Collaboration: Experienced in Autodesk Construction Cloud (BIM 360/ACC), Revizto & cmBuilder.
• Reality Capture: Familiarity with Faro/Leica scanners, Cyclone, ReCap, Advanced Drone Pilot (preferred), and DroneDeploy.
• 4D/5D & Analysis: Synchro, Assemble, or equivalent.
• Interoperability: IFC, COBie, NWC/NWD, BCF, point clouds; strong grasp of LOD/LOI definitions.
• Scripting/Automation: Experience in Dynamo and Power BI for dashboards considered an asset.
The estimated salary range for this role is $79,000 - $103,000, based on your experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be confirmed as part of a personalized offer.
