The Finance & Commercial Risk team plays a critical role in supporting operational and strategic decision-making. This team ensures financial accuracy, manages commercial and contractual risk, and partners closely with leadership to drive strong business outcomes.


Position Summary

The Commercial Contracts Manager leads contract administration, commercial risk management, and insurance compliance across district projects. Working closely with operations, finance, and risk management, this role ensures contracts are strategically structured, effectively executed, and proactively managed to mitigate risk and support strong project outcomes.

Responsibilities

Commercial Risk & Contracts

•    Lead the preparation, review, and negotiation of contracts in alignment with company policies and preferred positions
•    Contribute to bid and proposal reviews to ensure risks and opportunities are clearly understood and managed
•    Identify and mitigate commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle
•    Oversee contract administration, including resolution of issues, disputes, and deviations

 

Insurance, Claims & Compliance

•    Manage insurance, bonding, and performance securities solutions to meet contractual and corporate requirements
•    Lead claims management to reduce exposure and maximize recovery
•    Provide guidance to project teams on insurance and risk considerations
•    Maintain compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations

 

Due Diligence & Risk Support

•    Conduct financial due diligence on owners and trade partners
•    Support evaluation of payment, security, and contractual risk exposure

 

Governance & Reporting

•    Reinforce disciplined contract and insurance practices in line with company standards
•    Deliver clear reporting on claims, risks, and key commercial matters

 

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

•    Work cross-functionally to resolve issues and drive aligned outcomes
•    Build strong relationships across internal and external partners while communicating risks clearly
•    Advance process improvements and promote best practices across projects

Qualifications

Education & Experience

•    Degree or diploma in a related field
•    CPA, JD, or equivalent considered an asset
•    5+ years of experience in contract administration, commercial management, or project accounting in a construction or similar environment
•    Experience with risk management, insurance, and legal considerations preferred

 

Skills & Knowledge

•    Strong understanding of contracts, risk allocation, and commercial terms
•    Knowledge of insurance, bonding, and contract securities
•    Experience supporting bid and RFP processes
•    Effective communication and relationship management skills
•    Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities
•    Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion
