Here's how a Workforce Manager for our BC Region office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

  • Actively sources tradespersons through a variety of channels to improve candidate quality and maintain a balanced pipeline of candidates for hard-to-fill roles.
  • Work with appropriate project and field team members to identify training needs and coordinate safety training for new hires on each jobsite.
  • Guide and coach supervisors through progressive disciplinary process for crafts persons, including the development and delivery of performance improvement plans and/or progressive disciplinary strategies on employee-relations issues up to and including termination.
  • Works closely with project team to review and understand project demands and needs. Oversees the assignment and placement of skilled labor.
  • Exercises independent judgment in analyzing complex and diverse workplace issues. Handles sensitive labor-relations matter and conducts complex labor-relations investigations.
  • Works with union to develop project labor agreements to establish rates, travel allowances and any other specific terms.
  • Works proactively with unions on ways to promote and improve the safety culture, seeking a collaborative approach to improving productivity.
  • Oversees the administration and management of workers' compensation program for skilled crafty workers; this includes training on injury prevention, reporting of injuries, and monitoring modified work arrangements.
  • Ensures team development and succession planning is in place for department and field staff to meet the future needs of the project and district.
  • Monitors and oversees the apprenticeship and mentoring programs related to skilled craft; ensures that adequate resources are available for growth in required areas.

Qualifications

  • Trades certification or technical diploma/degree in a related field preferred. 
  • 10 years of progressive experience in lead hand/foreperson role and/or labor relations or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team comprising of craft recruiters, workforce specialists, and workforce supervisors.
  • Seen as a trusted advisor with outstanding relationship leadership skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key partners and handle confidential information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate and present content and ideas that influence a favorable outcome.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), Workers Compensation, and alcohol and drug testing protocol and laws.
  • Extensive experience with collective bargaining, labor negotiations, mediation, formal complex investigations and providing appropriate recommendations.
  • Experience building and implementing a labor relations strategy for the organization.

The salary range for this position may be $100,000 - $130,000.
